Arun Viswanathan
Computer Science graduate student
Howdy!! I am currently pursuing my Master's in Computer Science at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. I joined this school in the Spring of 2004, as a transfer student from Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, OK. I received all my education, until my Bachelor's in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, in different parts of India. I came to the US and joined the Master's program in Telecommunications Management at Oklahoma State University. But during the course of this program, I realised my growing interest in Computer Science, which is what brought me to Dr. Boult's VAST lab in CU Colorado Springs.
Here are the links to the projects I have been involved in:
1. Detection of CWA in
Maritime Cargo
2. Revocable
Biometrics with Robust Distance Metrics
3. GPS-based Tracking System for Trauma Patients
For those interested in my resume, here it is: doc, pdf, txt
Here are a few links that I have found pretty useful:
1. OpenCV: This
is the Open Computer Vision library, it has some really good sample code
and is quite useful in image processing applications and computer
vision research.
2. FF3D: This
is a finite elements based partial differential equations solver. I
used it in some of my simulations in the CWA project, along with a
couple of other software packages -- POV-Ray for pre-processing and OpenDX for post-processing.
3. CSU
Face Software: This is a face identification evaluation software
which has source code for face recognition algorithms and their
statistical analysis.
4. Perl Books:
Here's a list of books on perl programming that are available online.
And if you just want to work on perl regular expressions, click on
perl regex. As in any programming language, it is advisable to
use a debugger for perl too, so here's a link that gives a decent
intro to the perl debugger
perldb.
I am a very active person, was an athlete and soccer player during my high school days. I have always loved table tennis (a.k.a. ping-pong) and biking and am quite serious about my fitness. Though not a big time reader, I enjoy reading John Grisham's serious law stories as well as P. G. Wodehouse's funny ones on Jeeves and Wooster. I am a very passionate musician. I have had formal training in playing the tabla, an Indian classical percussion instrument (here are a few pictures of the tabla maestro, Ustad Zakir Hussain, in action). Besides, I am also a drummer, play the bongos, congos, conventional drums...pretty much anything to do with beats....and also sing a bit. I love to listen to various kinds of music as well, ranging from Indian classical music to rap and hip-hop.
