Some Limerics by Terrance Boult On meeting dynamics: There is a natural law of entropy: disorder 's increasing - that's how it must be. But its growth potential is beyond exponential when you combine big egos and apathy. On maintaining the status quo: At a place where learning is foremost, you'd think they'd know better than to coast. But when I look at this place, we seem out of the race -- there 's so little about which we can boast. On Science: That science is first about publishin' is a though I find rather troublin'. When egos come first watch out for the worst, for the truth is often quite humblin'. On meeting preparation: Democracy takes education and commitment to the relation. If people would come with their homework all done There wouldn't be so much frustration. On committee decisions: Some say the department 's run by committee and I say that its all quite a pity. Like canvassin' the vote in a land quite remote when the election is held in the city. On requiring all things important: Computing is much like a fine art, there're basics to master at thee start. But stifling demands on creative hands cool the fire that burns in their heart. On the first course in computer science: That computing is first about coding is a thought I find simply foreboding. We should teach them instead about using their head or in 10 years their careers will be folding.
